This book was a rough one for me. So short, yet it took me forever to read after Maupin’s behemoth. I don’t know if it’s suffering from comparison but it just didn’t quite feel real or true. I like all the plot ideas: the magic/demon summoning, the interesting off the grid setting, and the group of punk characters. Perhaps it is true to that group, reminds me a bit of MLC’ers. In that sense the myopic view makes a bit of sense.
The end grabbed me enough that I’m not wholly certain I won’t read the next one, but previous to that end this book was a 1 or 2 star for sure. Thank goodness for great finishes I guess. Also kinda funny/serendipitous that they mentioned Portland for the next one.
